Extensive damage to a domestic property following a deliberately set fire.
In this sensitive case in Leeds, we supported the insurer with a fire damage assessment. This case involved a domestic house fire in which there were fatalities. The extensive damage to the semi-detached home occurred when a fire was deliberately set using an accelerant.
Our team were entrusted with the responsibility of assessing the extent of damage. With a deliberate fire, we had to be particularly delicate when investigating. As there were fatalities involved in this case, it was important we remained sensitive whilst undertaking our surveys and investigations.
Part of our duty, in this case, was to establish the cost of repairs. The cost reparations were in excess of £150k. From this cost, we went on to create an agreement and settlement. This was a final account following the damage reinstatement work by the contractor.
To be thorough in our research, we had continuous and extensive communication with the local emergency services, local authorities, and forensic experts on the case.
The tragedy caused a large amount of local interest, and as a result media outlets were continuously looking for a story. Out of professional courtesy, we avoided discussing anything with the media.
This project was a challenge due to its sensitive nature. Our team remained professional and achieved a successful outcome for all involved.
