Cllr Ben Miskell, chair of Sheffield City Council’s transport, regeneration and climate policy team and Jason Sharp founding partner at Overford sat down with Place North’s Sally Gibson to discuss the regeneration taking place across Sheffield and the wider South Yorkshire region.
Successful regeneration projects rely on more than vision and funding. Effective planning and early technical input allow complex developments to move forward. The goal with these types of projects is always to deliver meaningful change to cities and communities.
Major schemes such as the redevelopment of Moorfoot, alongside the £470m Heart of the City programme, highlight the Sheffield’s ambition to deliver new homes, investment, and vibrant urban spaces.
However, projects of this scale inevitably face challenges. These include funding pressures, complex site conditions, and coordination between multiple stakeholders. Bringing planning and technical expertise into projects early can help manage these risks. It can also address viability issues, and support the successful delivery of large-scale regeneration schemes.
